The Seafarers Center invites anybody interested in learning to sail or improving their existing skills at adult or junior level, to enrol in one of their evening or weekend courses. We also cater for large groups or Schools and will tailor our day courses to suit.
We are covering the following courses and if you possess a desire for excitement and a pair of runners we will supply the rest.
Our on the water courses for summer commence in April /May and are –
|I.S.A. Adult Level 1 – 3||I.S.A. Power Boat|
|I.S.A. Junior Level 1- 5||Level 1|
|Improving Techniques||Level 2|
Another source of pride at the Seafarer Center is our junior training programme. Over the years the club has taught more than 1000 young people between the ages of ten and eighteen to sail. The club has held some of the largest training courses ever, with 45 juniors participating. All achieved success in the various levels of the Sailing Association’s Training Programme.
A most encouraging aspect is that many of the junior members have themselves passed through the Sailing Associations rigorous Instructors Programme and are now qualified Instructors teaching in our own club and elsewhere.
The juniors have their own “Junior Shack” which allows them to be independent from the main clubhouse if they desire and they guard this facility well!
This year I would really like to see all juniors out sailing early and not doing the sailing course and then disappearing until next year. There are lots of lasers lying around so let’s give it a big push and get out on the water. A topper event is being organised in July/Aug so this is something for you all to work towards. You will also be sailing in the same area as the rest of the boats so you’ll have a chance to learn and use the rules in better winds .
It has come to my attention that the club has trophies for mirrors and lasers that were not presented because the boats were not out racing. This is something we need to talk about at the meeting and encourage each other to be out there sailing on as many Wednesdays and Sundays as possible. If you race and compete you will improve, find it easier to pass your levels and win prizes !!!! Otherwise the trophies will be staying in their boxes at the next prize giving.
I hope to see you all at the meeting with loads of ideas and lets see everyone out sailing/racing early.
